iPhone won’t turn on? Your photos are probably still there.

A black screen, a phone that won’t charge, or an endless Apple logo doesn’t mean your photos are gone. In most dead iPhones, one part on the logic board failed, and the storage chip with your photos is fine.

iPhone logic board diagnosis

Why this happens

iPhones store everything on a chip soldered to the logic board, and it’s encrypted to that board. Nobody can pull the chip out and read it somewhere else. The board itself has to work again.

The usual culprits are a shorted power line, a failed charging chip after a cheap cable or a drop, or corrosion from moisture. These are board-level repairs most shops don’t do.

What to do right now

  1. Stop plugging it in over and over. Repeated attempts can stress a damaged board.
  2. Don’t let anyone replace the logic board. A new board means a phone without your data.
  3. Find your passcode. We’ll need it to unlock the phone once it powers on.
  4. Start your mail-in and ship it insured.

How we get your data back

We find the failed part, repair the board at the component level, and bring the iPhone back to life long enough to copy your photos, videos and messages off. Then we hand you your files.

Questions

Apple said they can’t recover my data. Can you?

Often, yes. Apple replaces boards rather than repairing them, and a new board doesn’t have your data. We repair the original board.

Will my iPhone work again after?

Sometimes. Our goal is your data, but board repairs often bring the phone back too. We’ll tell you either way.

Is iCloud an option?

If iCloud Photos was on, check icloud.com first. It’s free. If your photos aren’t there, the phone is the only copy, and that’s what we recover.
